The Test step analysis module is optimized to provide fast results when working with large data sets. Depending on which fields are populated in the filter, the analysis may use different data sources, which can affect both performance and how result limits are applied.
Analysis based on aggregated data
When the filter is limited to general selection fields (such as levels, product groups, processes, and similar), the analysis is performed using aggregated data. In this case:
Results are returned quickly
Metrics and charts are calculated from aggregated data
The Max reports filter primarily serves as a cap on the number of measurements that can be applied to the analysis view in the Step details module.
Analysis based on report-level data
When one or more of the following filter fields are populated:
Serial number
Misc info description
Misc info value
the analysis is performed directly on individual test reports instead of aggregated data. In this mode:
Results may take longer to load
Metrics are calculated from the examined reports
The Max reports filter defines the maximum number of reports that are included in the analysis
As a result, changing Max reports in this mode can affect counts, averages, limits, and other calculated values.
What this means for you
If you notice differences in performance or results when adjusting filters—especially when using Max reports together with serial number or misc info fields—this is expected behavior. The analysis adapts automatically to ensure accurate results based on the selected filter criteria.
