Support for several user accounts sharing the same email address will be discontinued during WATS version 2026.3. Every user account must then have a unique email address.
Why
The change is made for security reasons. A unique email address for every user account is standard practice for secure account handling, and it is a precondition for the strengthened user management being introduced in WATS.
What is the impact for you as a customer?
- Once the change takes effect, a user account can no longer be created or saved with an email address that is already in use by another account.
- Accounts that still share an email address at that point will have the duplicate address removed.
- Organizations in which every user account already has a unique email address are not affected and need to take no action.
What you need to do
Review the user accounts in your organization as soon as possible and give every account a unique email address. See below:
Find user accounts that share an e-mail address
- Select Control Panel > Users & account > Users
- All user accounts in the organization are listed.
- Drag and drop the E-mail column header to group the list by e-mail address. Identical addresses are then placed next to each other.
- Note every e-mail address that appears on more than one account, and note which accounts use it.
Update the e-mail address on an account
- In Users, select the account that requires a new e-mail address.
- In the E-mail field, enter the new, unique e-mail address.
- Select Save. The account is now listed with the new address.
Remove an account that is no longer needed
Where a duplicate exists because the same person has two accounts, remove the account that is not in use rather than giving it a new address.
- In Users, select the account that is no longer in use.
- Select Delete user.
