🔎 How to Use the Correlation View
The Correlation View in WATS helps you quickly discover relationships between step measurements. By selecting a step measurement as the reference, the view displays other step measurements that behave similarly. This allows users to investigate variations and potential root causes more efficiently.
📌 This article explains how to configure the correlation settings, interpret the results, and continue analysis in Workbench.
1️⃣ Accessing the Correlation View
Navigate to Step Details.
Apply any desired filters (run, step status, measurement status, etc.).
Select the Correlation view tab to open the view.
The view will automatically begin loading correlation results.
2️⃣ Select a Reference Step
The reference step is used as the baseline for correlation calculations.
Use the Reference step selector to choose among the steps included in the current Step Details filtration.
The reference step chart is always displayed first in the chart grid.
Tip: Switch reference steps to explore different relationships in the dataset.
3️⃣ Configure Correlation Settings
Use the correlation settings ribbon to refine which steps are included in the results:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Correlation threshold | Minimum correlation strength required for a step to appear in results |
| Same direction only | Only include steps that trend in the same direction as the reference |
| Include string values | Enables correlation against string-based measurements |
| Display limits | Shows test limits inside charts |
Changes update results automatically.
4️⃣ Reviewing Correlation Results
The chart grid displays up to nine correlating step measurements in addition to the reference step chart.
Each chart reflects the currently selected:
Step Filters
Sequence selection
Period selected in Overview
Correlation settings
The header displays:
Number of processed steps vs. total
Pause / resume loading controls
You may pause the loading to inspect results more easily.
5️⃣ Selecting Steps for Further Analysis
You may select steps for deeper comparison:
Click the checkbox in the corner of each chart to select
Selection is locked when loading is paused or complete
If loading resumes or is refreshed, step selections are reset (because ranking may change)
6️⃣ Continue Analysis in Workbench
Once relevant steps are selected, click:
Analyze selected in Workbench
This immediately opens Workbench and applies the same selection — allowing further statistical analysis without needing to re-identify steps.
📌 The action is only available when at least one step is selected.
Summary
The Correlation View enables users to:
Discover patterns and relationships in step measurements
Improve diagnostic efficiency
Transition seamlessly to deeper analysis in Workbench
We recommend incorporating this view into your regular failure analysis workflow to enhance visibility into test behavior changes.
