The Alarms and Notifications module in WATS is designed to help you automatically monitor your manufacturing and test operations, detect specific conditions, and trigger alerts when those conditions are met. This enables proactive management of quality, yield, and asset statuses.
Overview
Alarms and notifications can be found in the Control panel, under Process & production
You can set up rules that watch for certain patterns or thresholds in your data, including:
- Reports (UUT Rules) – Apply to unit under test data and evaluate fields like status, part number, and test results.
- Yield & Volume Rules – Monitor trends in yield (% of passes) and production volume across specified time periods.
You can also control event frequency:
- Inactive after – Automatically deactivate a rule after it has executed a specific number of times.
- Period grouping (e.g., hour, day) combined with Number of periods and Consecutive periods can enforce that conditions must be met over a sustained timeframe before triggering.
Rule Logic
Rules are built using logical structures:
- AND-condition blocks – all conditions in the block must be met.
- OR-conditions – conditions within the same block where any one match can satisfy that part.
Example:
Part number = 123 AND Status = Failed
Or using OR logic:
Part number = 123 OR Part number = 345
Field operators you can use include:
- Is / Is not
- Contains / Does not contain
- Greater than / Less than (with or without equality)
- Increased/Decreased by (value or percentage)
Rule Categories & Filters
Volume & Yield Rules
- Filter by: Product group, Part number, Revision, Station name, Process, etc.
- Metrics: First/Second/Third/Last pass yield, production volume
- Set consecutive period conditions or check for percentage changes
Report Rules
- Filtering similar to volume & yield
- Extra filters: Serial number, Status, Number of runs/retests, specific test sequences
Measurement Rules
- Includes measurement path filtering for specific test steps or measurements
Serial Number Handler Rules
- Trigger when free or reserved serial numbers fall below a threshold
Asset Rules
- Trigger on asset-specific conditions such as state changes, warning/alarm statuses, calibration or maintenance due dates, and tag values
Actions
When an alarm triggers, an email can be dispatched to one or more users and/or to all users with in one or more roles.
Logs & Monitoring
- Logs are available for the last 1000 rule executions.
- A dashboard widget is available for the alarm log.
Asset-related Alarm Use Cases
Alarm rules can be combined with the System / Assets module to monitor calibration dates, maintenance schedules, or other asset state changes.
